Scam targeting pet owners

Important Notice to Our Valued Clients

We would like to make you aware of a scam that is currently targeting pet owners and veterinary practices.

Scammers are reportedly searching for online posts about lost pets, identifying the local veterinary practices that are most likely to care for those pets, and then contacting distressed owners while pretending to be their veterinary practice.

The caller may claim that your pet has been found badly injured and urgently requires treatment. They will then ask for payment over the phone, claiming that part or all of the treatment must be paid for in advance.

Please be assured that Blackwater Valley Vets would never request payment in advance in these circumstances or ask you to make an urgent payment over the phone without first discussing your pet’s condition, the recommended treatment, and the associated costs with you.

Please remain vigilant. We also recommend saving our telephone numbers in your contacts so you can easily recognise genuine calls from Blackwater Valley Vets.

If you receive a call that you are unsure about, do not make any payment. End the call and contact us directly using one of our published telephone numbers to verify the information.

These fraudsters prey on the distress and emotions of families who are desperately searching for their beloved pets. By staying alert and sharing this information with others, we can help protect our community.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

What You’re Saying

I was very happy with the care my cats received…the vet gave me a great deal of time and treated my girls like his own. I also received a lot of help from the head nurse who gave me a diet plan to follow which has helped them lose weight. They are now a lot healthier and much more active.
